Ravishing Raku

Last day of Raku firing this week as I ran out of gas 😢 the rest of this run of big pots will be fired in our rubbish burn off bonfire. Hopefully this weekend. This clip is showing the beginning of the firing. These pots have been dipped in a sacrificial slip. The slip drys and cracks ( but you don’t want it to fall off) Which it did, will adjust the brew. Then fired to 725 degrees C Taken out and put in paper lined can which bursts into flames 🔥 In a couple of minutes, a lid goes on forcing carbon into the cracks. Taken out plunged hissing into water. Now is when we want slip to fall off. That makes the crackles.
