You won’t stop looking at this piece.
Ferric Chloride,Saggar Fired, the marking and colours evoke the feeling of looking through a portal in space.
The technique used is to paint the metallic oxides onto a cloth, wrapping the elements in the cloth. Then wrapping in layers of wet clay covered paper. Once encased the elements are Raku fires.
When fired and removed from the kiln, the casing which reminds me of an eggshell is cracked open revealing what’s inside. It’s very exciting.
The elements have been assembled with leather onto a found piece of antique ironwork.
